WHAT IS SINUS SURGERY REVISION?

Sinus Surgery Revision may be an unfortunate necessity for some patients. It can be a frustrating process since the first surgery failed to provide relief for your symptoms. It’s important to point out that it’s not uncommon. The reasons for the surgery revision may be a result of multiple mitigating circumstances.

WHY DO I NEED SEPTOPLASTY REVISION OR SINUS SURGERY REVISION?

Sometimes when a patient undergoes a procedure to correct a deviated septum (known as a Septoplasty), the surgery may be unsuccessful for long-term relief. This may occur because, over time, the septum may return to a deviated position due to the technique utilized during the initial surgery.

Additionally, trauma to the nose after a Septoplasty may cause the septum to shift positions, creating the need for revision.

Sinus Surgery Revision may be required if the sinuses previously operated on were treated with Balloon Sinuplasty and returned to their original occluded size. If issues such as pain, sinusitis, and the reduction in airflow recur, these might be signs that the Balloon Sinuplasty was unsuccessful. Many of Dr. Shuaib’s patients have undergone unsuccessful procedures and seek out Dr. Shuaib out for revision sinus surgery.

It is important to evaluate the extent of sinus disease and scarring from prior surgeries when recommending revision sinus surgeries. The extent of the revision procedure depends on the presence of nasal polyps, the number of diseased sinuses involved, and scarring related to prior procedures.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS INVOLVED IN SINUS SURGERY REVISION?

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks involved. Dr. Shuaib will discuss any risks with each patient prior to performing a procedure.

As an American Board of Otolaryngology Board (ABO) Certified Otolaryngologist, Dr. Shuaib has demonstrated to the ABO that he meets the rigorous standards of training, knowledge, and professionalism demanded by that oversight body.

He works diligently to attempt conservative and medical treatments prior to considering revision sinus surgical procedures by exploring other options before recommending additional surgery. He doesn’t prescribe a treatment plan because it’s new or popular; he prescribes tailored treatment plans based on what he feels will produce the best possible outcomes for that specific patient.
